From Military Discipline to Personal Transformation: Lance Scherer’s Journey

How this Army vet went from military structure to personal commitment—and the results speak for themselves.

From Military Discipline to Personal Transformation: Lance Scherer’s Journey

Get Results Like Lance

Lance Scherer’s fitness journey began after he left a 12-year career in the Army, where fitness was a rigid, structured part of his daily routine.

Without that military framework, he realized something had to change.

“I refused to become another ex-military guy reminiscing about past fitness levels,” Lance says.

His goal was clear: “Stay in shape, stay active, and ensure I could run around with my kids for the next 20 years—and, hopefully, my grandkids after that.”

Starting Strong: The Summer Shred Challenge

In 2022, Lance took on the Summer Shred Challenge and got great results. “I dropped from around 220 to around 200 pounds,” he says.

But like anyone else, his life had its ups and downs, and by the end of 2024, Lance was back to nearly 250 pounds, facing a fresh set of challenges.

Determined to get back on track, Lance signed up for the 2025 New Year’s Challenge and committed to the Shortcut to Shred program. The results were nothing short of remarkable.

“I lost an incredible 27 pounds, dropping from 246 to 219 pounds,” Lance says. “My wife and I were stunned at how quickly the weight came off.”

Dialing in Nutrition and Consistency

Lance’s strategy the second time around was simple but effective—he stuck to his diet with a laser focus.

“I locked in my diet like never before, following the Shortcut to Shred Diet for a 200-pound person,” he explains. “My meals became a routine—cottage cheese for breakfast, plain chicken breast for lunch and dinner, seven days a week.”

While his meals were strict, Lance made sure to stay consistent with his supplements. His go-to stack included Alpha JYM , Vita JYM , ZMA JYM , Omega JYM , JYM Vitamin D3+K2 , Pre JYM , and Post JYM .

Overcoming Life’s Obstacles

Making fitness a priority wasn’t easy, especially with the demands of family life.

“Sleep with a one-year-old is unpredictable,” Lance says in reference to his young family. “Some days I was running on just four hours of sleep, but I refused to let that be an excuse. Gym sessions happened whenever possible—4 AM, 10 PM, whenever I could fit them in.”

And then came the snowstorms.

“Each one turned into an unexpected cardio session—shoveling the driveway before heading to the gym,” he says. When weather closures forced rest days, Lance doubled up later to make up for lost sessions.

Finding Family Support and Accountability

Lance credits his family and accountability from the JYM Army as keys to his success.

“My 8-year-old daughter asked about my workouts every morning at breakfast,” he says. “My wife took on extra grocery runs to keep my 24-ounce daily cottage cheese habit stocked. This journey wasn’t just mine—it became a family effort.”

He also teamed up with four other consistent members of the JYM Army, checking in daily to ensure everyone stayed on track.

What’s Next?

Lance’s transformation is far from over.

“My plan is simple: one workout at a time,” he says. “You don’t need to compete with anyone but yourself. External excuses won’t get you results—commitment will.”
